Sage Culinary Advice at the Market This Week

Saturday, July 3 – Some would say “rut”, but I say “soup’s on!” – once again, I will be enticing shoppers to our Monday Pioneer Courthouse Square “Farmstand of the Future” (Springwater Farm’s side by side farmstand and ready to eat venture, featuring wholesome foods created with the meats and produce grown on the farm that shares the booth) with fresh vegan and gluten free Miso Mushroom Soup made with organically cultivated shiitake mushrooms, locally produced OTA tofu, green onions from Gathering Together Farm, and red miso.  Portland Farmers Market – PSU blocks, 8:30am-2pm.

Sunday, July 4th – Let Springwater Farm set off some fireworks in your mouth – NO, not LITERALLY!!  That would be crazy!  I mean ignite your palate with intense flavor as you savor mushrooms fresh off the grill.  I’ll be on site at the King Market Sunday showing shoppers how to grill fresh wild and cultivated mushrooms.  Demonstrations all day, including a miso-mushroom barbeque sauce, Italian-style porcini (the name means, “little pig” – a worthy griller, I’d say!) with olive oil, parsley, and garlic, and seared savory maitake mushrooms.  Also, join the market for the Build a Burger Fundraiser – a delicious way to support the matching SNAP token program.  10am-2pm.

Monday, July 5th – What’s better than a federal holiday?  A day off having lunch downtown in “Portland’s Livingroom”.  Portland Farmers Market is working hard so you don’t have to – join us at the Pioneer Courthouse Square Market for fresh fruit and veggies, a leisurely lunch, and a stroll around the grounds.  Springwater Farm will be serving up A Farmer’s Feast! Fresh wild greens with sautéed mushrooms, market egg sandwiches, and restorative miso mushroom soup.  Eat something healthy before heading on over to the festivities! 10am-2pm.

Wednesday, July 7 – Double Market Wednesday begins at Portland Farmers Market in Shemanski Park (10am-2pm).  Moreland Farmers Market begins at 3:30 and lasts until 7:30.  Opportunities abound for breakfast, lunch and dinner at the farmers market!  Plus samples served by yours truly at the Springwater Farm booth.

See  you at the market!
